Is right now a good time to rebalance my 401k. Want to move everything out of target funds to index funds. But worried it’s not a good time

Don’t time the market. If you want to change, do it now. Can you invest in ETFs in your 401k?

like

Thanks! Oh you’re right, they’re index funds. I’ll correct my post

What do you mean by not a good time? These are exchanged and settled at end of same day.

like

I don't understand what that has to do with anything if you're rebalancing. You are already invested in target funds that are at the all time high, and it's going to be exchanged at the same time.

Thinking of doing the same but the S&P 500 index is also at a all time high!

The market is at ATH for >50% of the time, relatively speaking. Time in the market > timing the market.

The number of people that exited the market in March 2020 😐

like

The only way the market valuation matters is if you’re proposing to alter your asset allocation to more equities or different sectors than the target date funds have. If you believe in the new allocation you should do it immediately. If you are keeping the allocation similar and just breaking into similar component funds for convenience, there is no impact and you should do it immediately. If you’re questioning your new allocation, then take some time and decide it is really right for you.

Now is a great time. Put yourself at a tax-advantage while you can

Not following. What tax advantage do you get by switching funds in your 401k?

Also, if they do ask to show proof, is that a red flag? Or is that pretty common? If so, I imagine I’d just block out the company name and stuff like that?

Is there any realistic way where tipping in the US goes away and we start to be like other countries (e.g. Europe/Asia)? Raise the price of the food, pay servers a fair wage, no tips? Just a dream 😅

I'm guessing no because businesses will fight hard against this (customers subsidize wages) and certain servers benefit from tipping as well.

Only other thing I can think of is if everyone collectively decides not to ever tip again and it forces business to change. Won't happen though.
