What's wrong with per diem??? The joy of this job is eating and drinking like a pro and not paying for it. Who wants to eat Chipotle for dinner and pocket $20 when you can go to a nice dinner and get drunk for a couple hours.
I think the expense policy is the same across the firm, but some projects monitor costs more closely.
We charge actual costs. As long as the project team is okay with it.
My sm told me once. If you have MCDs throughout the week, I'm okay with you going to a hundred dollar steak house
Deloitte is switching to per diem??
Not officially for a while, but I heard from some Managers+ that it's starting to become a more popular option since that's easier to bill
Is there a difference between Deloitte consulting and Deloitte advisory?
DC usually has a bigger budget
Advisory focuses on risk.
Some projects (mainly federal but think commercial is switching) have per diems. The amount depends on city, but is usually very generous (like average $60 a day)
They'll face a lot of backlash from folks at all levels if they switch to per diem.
What's wrong with per diem? It means you can pocket some money (as long as your per diems aren't shit)
Also how does alternate weekend travel work at Deloitte? At EY, as long as the flight to the home location is more expensive than the flight to the non-home location, then it's no cost to you.
For alt travel, almost all project leads will tell you that as long as it's not more expensive than the standard travel back home would be, book whatever you want.
The official Deloitte Policy is $50 per day but it really depends on what your project is okay with. My current project lets you expense $150+ dinners.
They can move to a healthy per diem as long as they don't pull the BS about not billing lunch. You put me on the road, you pay for my food and lodging.
My per diem averages $60 a day. That's $240 a week. I spend about $30 a day ($10 lunch, $20 dinner, and free breakfast at exec lounge). That's $120 a week, or (assuming 40 weeks) almost 5k of tax free dollars per year. Go enjoy your fancy dinners and I'll enjoy an extra vacation or two without even touching my actual income
