Take the square footage and figure out the ratio
This is the correct answer. Figure out the price per sq ft, then calculate rent accordingly. You each pay half for common spaces.
Use this calculator https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014/science/rent-division-calculator.html basically you both bid on what price you think the master is worth. Takes into account the fact that your priorities may be different and weighted differently.
This what we did as well, most scientific approach

Square footage is not the answer. I’m embarrassed for the people saying that, who are probably getting paid more than they should be. You also need to factor in things like windows/natural light, shared walls, closet space etc. there are calculators for that stuff if you want to make it exact. Def more than $200 I’d say.
No need to be such a d*ck about it…
Mmm the biggest portion.

$1750 and $1550 seems pretty fair, IMO

Though the best answer is not having roommates at all 😉
Our total rent is 3300 for the two bed apartment (not in NYC lol)

I mean $100-200 I feel like would make sense, eh?
100 for the room and another for the privacy to take a sh*t
Do you have your own bathroom even if it’s not en-suite? I’d do sq ft and round it down to the closest $50.
Simple math. By square footage. Calculate total cost per square foot and use the ratio to divide the fee.
