Is 16LPA low for 5Exp. Devops background
Hi All,
Looking to make the move from working in industry to big4 and was curious as to what level and pay I might be worth?
I have 10 years experience out of uni, as well as completed CPA and MBA. I have a experience in managing entire finance function of small/medium entities, but most notably solid corporate finance experience/strategy leading refinance exercises, debt raising, hedging/treasury strategy etc…Would be looking for something in deal advisory / M&A / CFO advisory etc….thanks Deloitte EY PwC @

Desired quality of life is a major driver. With $200k you’ll be fine but you will never be able to afford a house. It’ll be a big change for you coming from TX
Ideally double of what you make now if you wish to keep up your current standard of living.
Thanks for all input! I did housing survey online and don't think i can afford to buy a house at all. I really wanna work for Google but low 200s wont be sufficient to support family of 3 in Cali.
Don’t listen to those people who say double. Their literally just repeating what everyone else has said. go to NUMBEO.com and I’ll give you a rough estimate of the cost of living in your city versus the cost of living in San Francisco and it’ll give you the difference
How big is your family? And what type of living situation are you okay with here in the Bay Area (eg. rent vs. own)?
The math is always different based on a handful of factors - housing, food, number of incomes vs. number of people, etc.
For example, I’m single, so I live in a studio and make sure to eat all meals M-F (minus Fri dinner) at Google. Rent is a big cost factor for me, but food / groceries is not.
Look up realtor.com to see houses in Mountain view, CA and nbd that are for sale to get an idea. A decent one in good school district and size (2000 sq ft living space, 10k sqft lot) will run you 2mm+ easily. Not all MV schools are great so pick homes that have good schools in your filter. If you move to Los Altos or Palo Alto, add another million to the house price. If you are working and your spouse is working as well, you both will be able to afford MV at least.
You need to take the job. It’s google. You will figure everything else out later. Our equity + pay with Google increases quite fast. Trust me
Total compensation looks a lot but realistically base is what i need to survive day to day
I would say $200-300k at least. Compared to Dallas, will probably feel like your income got cut quite a bit
