Take PTO. If you’re interviewing, you’re not working.
If I didn’t take PTO to interview with your company, I’m not taking it to interview at my next one…
I just block off my calendar for interview times. No one really asks why it’s blocked.
I requested the interview somewhere around 8 am (an hour before my morning calls) or during lunch hour
Yep, or tell your manager you have a doctors appointment at that time. It’s much easier if the interviews are at virtual and you’re WFH.
Helped while we were traveling. I’d use Friday travel days as cover, take a super early flight home then keep a couple hours open in the morning to schedule calls.
On sites are harder to juggle obviously, but still manageable by rearranging other calls and taking personal time.
If your manager is paying that close attention they probably already know you’re looking, and if they have a problem with it even more reason to leave.
Do all the prep / practice at night and on weekends. Make sure you’re well rested and setting boundaries to minimize burnout. Sprinkle in a sick day to rest up and clear your head if you need to. If you have to book interviews during working hours block your calendar. Definitely recommend Friday and Monday AM for them. If that’s not more than an hour or so, not more than a few times a week, no one should notice. Make up for the missed work later that day (don’t lead people to think you’re throwing in the towel). Convenient thing about consulting is we have so many responsibilities that people can assume that time was spent on a different task than the one they’re overseeing. — I’m assuming you still wfh
