Data & Analytics at KPMG consists of roles across the spectrum- from D&A consultants which are less technically demanding to Data Scientists on the other end amongst others. In case you are interested in modeling, ML or NLP related work, time to build your ML and coding skills. Also, having a knowledge of current technologies like cloud services, necessities towards production oriented data science etc will be useful. If you are inclined less on technical angle, you can learn tools like Alteryx, Tableau. Common to both ends, learn a programming language (preferably Python).
Thanks for the information! I’m interested in predictive modeling and have used Tableau a little, but would likely have to start from the bottom to learn and polish those skills. Not so interested in learning to code, but would be willing to if the project requires.
OP, I have a similar background to yours. Focused heavily on econometrics in school and have decent SQL skills but hate to code. My work has centered less around coding and more around statistical knowledge - knowing what model types to use with data, understanding what can and can’t be inferred from model results, and most importantly being able to hone in on the “so what” that actually gets presented to decision makers. That is where MC experience is very valuable; try to use it to your advantage in making the switch.
Thank you for the encouragement M1! I think I would enjoy the type of role you laid out, but would need to dust off my econometrics textbook for sure.
Also curious!
Which firm? Varies greatly across
K1 - I’m currently at KPMG. I’ve watched some informative videos on our strategy and data analytics practice, but the role still doesn’t seem clear. I studied analytics and Econ in undergrad, but don’t have technical coding skills. Think I’d enjoy it, but my guess is it’s hard to move from client facing to all technical work
Analytics at ATK is 100% client facing
