It’s been a little turbulent but the ship is starting to steady. New ERP system will be good by the time you join. We will have a new CEO next year who will be more client centric (a good thing IMO) and the ESOP will work itself in the long term.
No. People who know do not go to BDO!
People who know….
Avoid BDO
I’m a SM in the corporate tax group. I actually like it here. So to each their own I guess. I’ve also worked at 2 of the B4 firms. Saying that to say that I’m not someone with nothing to compare it to.
I think the boat was rocked a little after the ESOP but things are straightening back out. I also wonder if it’s possible that the increased pressure people are feeling now as opposed to pre-ESOP is just related to moving up in their careers and getting more exposure? Probably not the case for everyone but something I would think about. It could also be the messaging from the individual offices? Idk but I like the leadership in my area and don’t really think it feels that much different. Of course we are focused on metrics, is there a firm that isn’t?
I also really like the people on my team. Which I think is important because let’s be honest, the work is pretty similar wherever you go assuming you’ve been in corporate tax for awhile.
1550 billable hours
ESOP has caused the firm to add extra pressure on everyone from top to bottom
Probably the wrong place to get advice as most folks that comment here are negative and have an ax to grind. (I guess you probably know that but worth saying) The tax group has been doing great for a while. I am not in tax but have been watching and I am very impressed. I would use my network to try and find some folks who left in say that last year and balance that with the folks on the team the recruiter introduces you too.
No. BDO took private equity “investment”. So they will likely be gone after being bled dry. Only go if you plan to do so for the short term and are ok with consistently worsening environment while there.
There is negativity for every firm. Been here for fours years and i really enjoyed it. But obviously depends on the group and office.
New leadership (CEO & in Tax) is coming. Breath of fresh air. I would recommend BDO.
I’m a manager in the corp tax group, would be happy to talk with you if you want more info. People just post replies to get reactions & air personal issues.
It’s actually a great firm. Most annoying thing though is that it seems like most leadership is brought in as a direct admit from the Big Four. So if you come in as SM, you’ll stay there for quite a while and maybe move up to MD. Principal would be sort of out of reach unless you really stand out from a sales perspective. Not enough internal promotion is frustrating.
