Terrible creative leadership in NY? Maybe because there’s a content guy in charge? 🤦🏽‍♀️

Having worked in the Publicis network in NYC I will tell you they’ve chased away all their creative talent the last 5 years and went headfirst into consultant-like talent. It hasn’t panned out and most of the agencies are in really rough shape. As account or strategy Digitas is fine, but if you’re creative I’d stay at Grey and keep looking for better. If they don’t turn it around (I don’t think they will), it may be hard to get out. Sorry to be negative but that’s the cold truth.

Discussion about creative greatness is the first step of a journey you don’t want to be on, Grey OP. Digitas has a long way to go before they’ll be doing good work. We are not oriented to do so as an organization. We don’t have the right creative leadership. And even if we did, there are a lot of growing pains after that.

Digitas has not been a creatively led shop, but they’re in a strong position within the Publicis network and there’s been some encouraging discussion recently around pushing for more consistent creative greatness. There seems to be enough support for that idea that it’s going to be a focus for Digitas this year and that should create opportunities to produce good work. The culture has been great in my experience, but I’m not in New York. I’ve heard from some in New York that it’s difficult to leave Digitas there, but hopefully this shift by leadership will change that by putting good work into their portfolios. (Not that they’d necessarily want to leave if they’re getting more book pieces, but it’s still nice to be wanted.)

Late to the party but what is going on in the Chicago office? Decent work being produced? Not sure of the exact accounts. Seems a bit of kenmore/whirlpool/jenair, Kellogg’s?
