Huge mistake? career feedback requested. I am 43. No mentorship/direction in high school and college (Econ degree) ended up writing commercial RE appraisals, it’s a bit of a sweatshop industry imo. Now I am a reviewer at a bank. Shy of $90k & 40 hours with little stress. I have my MAI, life is good. I loved acct. and finance (one grad-level finance class as an undergrad, I liked it.) in college. Feeling under-utilized now. Is there a space where I can add more value/earn more. Honesty only pls

You can definitely make more elsewhere. Some options are 1). Argus guru and market experts for brokerage shops; 2). Transitioning to in-house appraisal reviewer and/or closing role; 3). Move to the asset management or the transaction side where you can add a lot of value.

like

If you're doing CRE Appraisals have you thought about going into the closing space for CRE transactions? The pay is definitely higher and you're more involved in the whole process, forming budgets, reviewing loan docs, due diligence etc.

like

One person's biased opinion 😉. It's what I've been doing for the last few years and will start managing a closing team in the next few weeks. There are definitely moments when you're a bit swamped but that's likely true of any job. For the most part work/life balance is good and truly no two transactions are ever the same so it keeps you on your toes. My personal favorite part is that I'm not responsible for finding the business. The sales part of it is I feel endless.

like

Transition over to multifamily. Lots of firms out there looking for experienced and talented individuals like yourself.

like

Move to in house valuation an asset management firm. Your skills make or lose them money. Which means you will be part of the transaction team. People who can value assets are incredibly important and are paid that way - you don’t need to write the report though but making the investment judgement call based on your determined value is where you can make big bucks.

My family does residential appraisals, making individually ~125k a year.. with their own schedule and flexibility 👀 I’m aware commercial is different but honestly I think it’s a good career. Maybe it’s not the industry but the company?

Alright, fishies, let’s try this again. Name drop boutique firms that have offices in San Francisco Bay Area. Big 4 is not my future (as many many MANY of you have repeatedly said I’m not good enough for). So, I’m taking the hint and crossing MBB and Big 4 off my list but still hoping a smaller firm will consider me.

How difficult would it be to exit into MBB from Big 4 financial services consulting? Obviously it’s dependent on the candidate, but is this a switch one can accomplish without going back for an MBA?

I was doing some googling and I saw that PWC offers MBA hires 45k in comparison to MBBs at 70k +. Is this a bad joke? I can't imagine that PWC's target for MBA hires is widely different from MBB. In the US, the pay gap isn't that wide. Any reason behind this madness?

Hi all! I recently accepted a remote/hybrid RN position to try something new. Majority of my experience is at bedside. The pay is less than bedside (as a traveler), but more than a staff nurse. Are there any RN’s that left bedside for a remote position that can give advice on the work/life balance? What pros and cons do you encounter?

We all know how inflation can derail our Retirement Planning dreams!!Though it's better to start investing as early as possible, but HEY, all is not lost even if you start little late. We all have our family responsibilities when we start our career, so "INVESTING FOR SELF" takes a back seat.
Just a perspective, even if someone at the age of 45 years starts investin for his retirement, he can decently manage the same with discipline and regular investing.
Happy to discuss with anyone on this!!
