Hi all,
Do firms match offers from other Big 4s for campus hires? I’ve received a campus offer from both KPMG and EY. I’m more interested in the EY offer, but they are paying 3k less than KPMG.
Would it be a bad move to let them know about the other offer and try negotiating? I feel it wont make a difference in the long run, but at the same time I don’t want to leave any money on the table if possible.
Thanks!

On the other hand, how badly do you need the income? If you resign, you probably won't be able to collect unemployment while you look for a new position, while you usually can if the loss of employment was the company's decision rather than yours
Resigning sounds better.. Seems like the decision was in your control and not the other way around. Let me put it this way, is better to initiate the break up (with gf/bf) or getting dumped? You're welcome. 😎

I guess it comes down to why you are being terminated. Bad performance, company downsizing, etc.
If you let them fire you, it might make it easier to collect unemployement.
It is generally better to be fired than to quit, primarily because it preserves your legal right to claim unemployment benefits and potential severance, which are often forfeited upon voluntary resignation. Resigning voluntarily makes it difficult to claim wrongful termination, while being fired allows you to claim unemployment, provided it wasn't for strict "cause" (like misconduct).
Key Considerations:
Unemployment Benefits: If you quit, you usually cannot collect unemployment. If fired, you usually can.
Severance Packages: Getting fired can sometimes enable you to negotiate a severance package, which is rare if you quit.
Legal Action: Resigning weakens or eliminates potential legal claims (wrongful termination, discrimination).
Narrative Control: Some, particularly in high-level roles, argue that quitting allows for better control over your professional narrative, often framing it as leaving for better opportunities.
On Quora and Reddit, users generally agree that allowing yourself to be fired is better for financial reasons, particularly in the US.
What to Do:
Do not resign if you are being pushed out; make the employer terminate you.
Document everything related to your performance and communication with supervisors.
Consider a mutual separation agreement if it offers benefits similar to termination.
This sounds like ChatGPT advice
Getting terminated is worse. Leaving a job or searching while you have a job means you are looking for the right fit, where being terminated usually gives off the "something wrong with the candidate" vibe.
Not necessarily. What if the reason for the termination is downsizing/lay-off?

Getting terminated is far worse as it shows your previous company thought you were inadequate at the job, whereas resigning is quite a normal thing and could’ve been done for a number of reasons
Getting terminated for cause is definitely worse but you usually know if something like that is coming if you’re on a PiP etc. Take the opportunity to try to find a new job with the time you have left. If you are getting let go without cause it’s definitely better than resigning as you can be eligible for severance etc. which can give you time to find a knew job and navigate addressing it positively in interviews
Find the job 1st. At worst, get termed, but it stays confidential.
I would wait until the earlier of 1) getting a new job or 2) collecting your severance.
Resigning without a new job. Please do not try this. I am a living witness...i promise you, it is a dark hole and would only take grace to come out from.
