I am 31, 5 YoE in Tech consulting Deloitte, my TC is 150k. I was trying for promotion to manager but since the last few months I feel mentally exhausted like I've reached my cognitive limit. My manager gets annoyed at me cuz lately I'm forgetting too much. Everyday I feel like an imposter and that I need to quit consulting given my anxiety, depression and ADHD..I don't want to be miserable anymore - I want to switch careers. I also don't want a decrease in my income. What are my exit options?

Management will probably suit you a lot better than being an individual contributor. I’d say stick with it a little longer to get to a leadership role. I found I was much more able to leverage my strengths in leadership roles especially ones with very high complexity aka interesting/ challenging.

I’m currently a principal but have been in director, senior director and other roles of leading teams of 3-50. Feedback and lifestyle has always been better if I’m leading a team vs being an ic.

Are you on medication? Also can you interview? Other firms will pay more than that most likely

OP, your experience reminds me of my own. After feeling this way for months, with support from my Dr. And therapist I finally went on short term disability for 3mo. I’m now starting to feel like myself again and able to make decision about my career and next move. If you can take a medical leave, take the time to recover before making any decisions!
Good luck 🍀

Corporate Management? Start your own consulting business? ADHD makes it challenging sometimes, but finding a role or opportunity that will give you a bit of flexibility and room to reset when you need it is probably really important for you. I'm not sure which medicine you take, but I tried Adderall and it helped during the day but then made my anxiety/depression worse when it wore off. My doctor actually switched me to the combination of Zoloft (100 mg/day) and Wellbutrin (200 mg/day) and it has worked wonders for my ADHD symptoms as well as anxiety and depression. I can also think more clearly and feel more on top of things in my life again. I don't mean to overstep, but I'm telling you that medication combo has helped me tremendously.

How long have you been on this dosage? I am on 50 mg zoloft and 15 mg Adderall. I probably need a higher dose. Need to find a new doc first.

Have you heard of a book called “think again” it helps with the imposter syndrome symptoms. You are describing. I will say your post speaks to me. I definitely go through this journey myself often. I tried meds but found they were just driving up my anxiety.

Did you have a doctor officially diagnose you with anxiety, depression, and ADHD?

I have been overworked and overwhelmed at my current job for quite a while. This is my first position out of law school, small firm with large caseload, and in my second year of practice. I often think I should look for another opportunity elsewhere but I don't know that any other firms would give me the potential for growth and experience that I am getting here. What are other 2nd year associates doing at other firms? Trying to gauge if I really am getting more opportunities here

How do you deal with the following - 1) lack of general organization in life, note taking, keeping track of your relationships and 2) attention to detail. These 2 things have been bothering me a lot. We all are smart as hell but silly mistakes such as spelling mistakes, broader checks to be done on the deck is killing me. Also I feel the lack of organization in personal life blows into professional as well. If you are a consultant how do u deal with it ?
