You’re 52, going to be age discriminated in hiring markets and County is not federal government.
Anyone saying “not in this environment” without more questions is operating off emotion. I think you need to weigh how in-demand your skills are in the hiring market, how stable your company is, and what you wanna do personal (ya county probably would be more chill)
Pray about it first.
Don't even think about it! Regression.
I have friends who work in both city and county jobs 4-10s; a 10 hour work day can become a 12 hour work day with commute and other considerations. Each works in the Finance dept - 1 Accounting Manager and 1 Comptroller. Both has indicated the work-life balance is extremely poor, particularly during their audit cycle. They find themselves working up to 60 hours a week. When evaluating base compensation, you should always consider your per hour rate. Also what % decrease in your total salary is 25K? As with other comments government jobs are subject to budget cuts and do not always guarantee a capped 40 hour work week. Also the comments about the pension are very relevant.
I definitely wouldn’t WILLINGLY take less money in this economy, and definitely not for a government position.
I wouldn’t but that is your call
Keep looking
No
If you prefer an easier job and have enough for your living, then go ahead and try to stay there until retire.
I want to know why you're asking this question. This is a personal choice for your career. Conduct a thorough search and consider why you're looking for a job when you already have one. You have the answer.
Potential for advancement is promising if you work hard and apply yourself. I’d say yes to the possibility
Never make a move to a lower salary. That's exactly how valued you'll feel in that new job - 20-25k less than now.
I wouldn't unless youre under pressure too. I am same age same job considering a lower paying position with the county but don't rely on wages for full support. What do you want to do and what's the trade off.
I concur that a deficit of 25k is too much. It is a tough decision though. My WLB is terrible as a financial professional.
Unless your current position is too stressful, and you can't handle it anymore. Otherwise, not the time to make a change right now.
So you’re basically saying you want to retire? Because that’s what it will feel like. I’m sure mundane with no challenges other than stomaching repetition.
I won't if I am you. $20 - 25K lower? No if you ask me.
I am past retirement age, still working full time to insure my needs will be fulfilled financially. If I don’t, I would have to move in with the kids.
If you are 52, and you are considering a 20-25k pay it, please consider the amount of your 401K and your contribution to social security. Unless you are already over $1 million in your 401K and your house is paid off, college money set aside, it might get not be a good idea. Consider the fact that the federal government is seriously cutting back on expenditures. Now may not be the best time to accept an easy job with a substantial salary reduction.
I would not move jobs until we know how the new economy will recover or go into recession. I wouldn't want to wait to move; but right now; that seems to be the better choice.
right now it's great move. do what you want now. economy is always better . we just have to keep spending all money to keep it moving. it's good.
just that employers' aren't paying that much more than I think they should . a sr accountant in bay area earns more than sr accountant in LA, * which is around 110k -135k. I am not that happy right now either because they only paid me low end of this range and I put in 10 hrs daily full 5 days ( no break even _
yoyoyo job is not hard, is easy however much things to do so...should I move ??
I'm looking interviewing for that better ones however doesn't seem to even have time to make to that interview!
