I’ll take your job. That’s what I’m looking for.

Even switch.

Pardon?

I meant switching to private practice, my bad

You’re already in house? Am I missing something

I meant switching to private practice

Get those billable hour trackings ready and time entry routines

Not to speak the obvious, but if you might be able to get the new firm future work from your former employer, that could help in your interview

Need help thinking through this…Debating leaving to a tech startup. Very early stage ($3-7M ARR), would have a big role leading strategy and Ops. It’s a cash paycut, which is a bummer but the equity would be pretty good. Just nervous about leaving before hitting the full manager role and taking a paycut in this market to bank on equity. For those of you have left, what kind of questions did you ask yourself to know it was the right time?

I’m working at an insurance defense firm, trying to target my practice to L&E. I’m overworked and underpaid, but gaining valuable experience I hope to pivot toward an eventual in-house counsel position. I recently was offered an opportunity to lateral to a national firm for a significant pay increase (150% salary increase, much better benefits, hybrid WFH options). Problem-I would be shifting gears to Toxic Tort. I’m torn between my passion and the money. I’m a second year associate. WWYD?

I’m trying to buy my first house and my wife and I have a few IRAs from previous employers (Roth and non Roth). It may seem obvious, but in my experience partners value trial experience over anything else, so get it however you can. For example, my firm will favor a former prosecutor who has seen the courtroom a lot but has no civil litigation experience (not even a depo) over a seasoned associate who has only second chaired cases with a partner but hasn’t tried a case. Even trying a case and losing gives you credibility at my firm because you still did it.
