I am applying to law school and reaching out to folks at my BL firm for recommend letters. I have 2 so far: one from a sr. associate and one from my manager, both who know me very well. I also have a letter from a professor. Would it be superfluous to request a letter from a partner (former co-head of practice group)? The partner is very supportive and even asked if I could be enticed to come back to the firm after school. Most schools only require 2-3 letters. Is there a con to having more?

I don’t know that there’s a downside except that it keeps you from submitting additional letters from previous professors. Most schools care a lot more about your academic references than they do about references from lawyers, as silly as that may be.

like

Yeah agreed. Most schools care more about academic references

You might want to reach out to admissions advisors at the school. We can give our opinions, but unless someone in this bowl works in admissions it’s not necessarily very relevant advice.

It’d only be worth the trouble if the partner was an alum, and even then, I doubt it’s a game changer. 2 profs, 1-2 professional recs, and move on to the next thing on the list.

Does anyone think it’s a good idea to beg for a job and put your personal life out there to get sympathy, because that is what I am seeing every day on LinkedIn and then the recruiters and everybody will comment and send the jobs and they will end up with a job or interview the next day.
I’m getting close to the point of doing that because it seems like it is working.

Hello! I see a ton of questions in here about interviewing and getting hired as a PM. I also know that it’s really hard as a manager to hire a great team. I’m the head of product at a growing startup, and just hired two PMs in 3 months. One a career switcher who’d never been a PM before, and one a seasoned principal PM. Whether you are someone who’s interviewing or someone who’s hiring right now, ask me anything!

My contract is ending 12/31/22 and can’t be extended legally according to our CFO. Worked in various increasingly responsible roles at the same organization as a FT employee in IT for 17 years and then took a buyout and chilled doing side gigs for 18 months then came back as temporary contract staff for the last 3.8 years as Business Analyst and Technical Writer. Curious to know if I’m being unreasonable in expecting my next Senior BA role to pay in the $110-130k range in the DC Metro Area.
