I’m in the same boat & wondering if I should switch from PA. There is no help & it’s getting harder & harder. A boring life sounds so much better!
I have an industry job for a large employer in my state and am hardly ever board. Rarely do over 45/week and get $180k a year(which includes my bonus). Only downside is my director isn't much older than me so unless she leaves for some reason Manager is where I stay. But I have young children so $180k for me to be able to help them with homework, go to events, etc is more than worth it.
I don’t think industry compensation has kept up with the increase in comp in PA, so I wouldn’t expect a big bump and could potentially be looking at a pay cut. I was in industry for a bit and I found it boring, hence my return. I think work life balance is going to depend on the size of the company you join and whether they outsource the tax function or not.
BDO comp is very low, most likely they’re getting a large pay increase
Definitely.
Workload, a lot more set expectations on busy season - and even during the busier time, typically nothing more than 50 hours a week.
Comp, depending on where you go obviously - but yes, comp is the main reason I left. Bonuses that actually matter, and structured ways to get them.
