Does anyone have any insights on what a typical Sr. Associate Director makes at Boehringer Ingelheim? I have a range of 170-180k which I think is fair but don’t want to be underpaid. Also, any information regarding retirement planning or medical/dental benefits would be helpful. Haven’t gotten much out of HR. Thanks in advance!

I usually look at whether the pay justifies the stocks being lost. If the extra pay offsets it then its better.
Don't look at it like you need to get 75k in extra pay. Usually you dont want to touch vested stocks for a while so your not hit with the taxes when taking them out.
I say take the offer is the $$$ being offered is over 20k and if the culture and position fits your needs. Also if you dont feel like there is much growth left in your current role.
Not sure your pay but it should be really good based on your position. My base is 150k and I wouldnt leave my role for at least 30k to justify the change. I also get around 50k a year in stocks so if the company is not competitive in stocks I would expect maybe 40k-50k as I would also be talking away from like 150k in unvested stocks.
Thanks, this is helpful. The other companies arent offering stock. Base pay is $70k higher but stress is 2x.
How solid are the companies with the new offers? If they are bad companies and don’t work out for you, you’d have lost the vested stock and the new jobs if they don’t work out. Then you’d be unemployed and stockless. If the companies are good and the vested money lost can be recovered in a reasonable amount of time, then it may be worth it. But the main risk is how well the new jobs work out essentially.
Typically I err on the solid side, just because it can be difficult to get back up if something goes wrong with the riskier choices. It also sounds like the new companies would be a lot more work than the stable job. So there goes work/life balance, but also there seems to be less guarantees about how successful the ventures will be. The timespan of 10 years to find out if it will be a worthwhile endeavor may also be a problem because anything can happen in 10 years. Industry changes, life changes, changes within the companies themselves that may not be favorable (ie. new unfriendly colleagues or bosses, job or budget cuts, etc.) It’s not easy to choose between a tried and true stable corporate job and something more start-upish, precisely because you never know how everything works out in the long term. You could miss out on a major pot of gold, or you could lose what you had for something that wasn’t worth it. I think you should have a good contingency plan if everything doesn’t work out, because it’s not just about losing the stock value, but also would you be able to get back to the big company job if need be? On the other hand the big money could help with retiring early or affording a better lifestyle if invested and managed properly, so yeah whichever way you look at it it’s not easy to decide. 😄
Could you ask they keep whole by giving you a one time sign up bonus for the amount you are leaving behind? If not negotiate a delay start date so you can get your money back
