I am the only employee of a small business. My employer offers one health insurance plan ($1500 deductible, $8100 out of pocket). The IRS considers a high deductible plan to be $1,600, which means I cannot open an HSA to manage expenses. Is it reasonable to ask for more plans to be offered to me (the sole employee)?

Probably fine to ask. Odds are they likely are in a pooling relationship with other employers. Hard to imagine the plan is standalone or self-funded…

Perhaps some sort of small business deal? No idea. There are three of us and the other two are on family plans.

How much premium do you pay per person or family?

Just $3 is the employee cost share? Why?

That is a strange amount.

You should ask. Maybe you can help with setting the policy for future hires.

I’m a 7th year associate. I’ve practiced L&E my entire career in big law for large multi-national companies. I like my job, but I’m burned out. I have two kids under two and will, in all likelihood, go for gold and make it three under three to be done. I’m over traveling. I’m over traveling for trials. I’m over litigation in general. I do sales for a major engineering firm. Focused on new business and exploring new markets. Last year I was in the top 50% for order intake, and first in number of projects won along with number of new customers. I think this is extraordinary given the effort it takes to win new business.

For next year my goal increased by 2.5X, and less of what I bring in counts towards that target. I really enjoy my job but I will essentially be getting a large pay cut. Lost in what to do besides quit??

We live in Florida and currently have a Freshman in High School and a 16 month old. We hear from our friends and family with college bound children "I wish we would have done Florida PrePaid." After obviously ignoring this for years, we are finally trying to do it before "it's too late" for both children.
