I am trying to decide between an offer from EY-Parthenon and Roland Berger. The comp is very comparable. I am attracted to RB’s industries more because I’m interested in Operations and Industrials work rather than M&A and PE. At the same time I feel like Parthenon’s size in the US might yield better exit ops. I am also looking for a firm that can give me good international opportunities. What are your thoughts?

International opportunities = RB. Many consultants are staffed on projects in Europe.

like

RB isn't as strong in the US as it is in Europe. Since you're seeking international opportunities, not sure how relevant that is.

RB doesn't have strong name recognition in the US, but for those in the know, it's well regarded.

like

No one has heard of Roland Berger in the US, go with EY Parthenon.

like

In the US EYP
In Asia and Middle East, EYP barely exists, RB probably is the strongest t2
So choose RB only if you want to work in Asia/Europe/Middle East in the future

like

The AM&M/industrials practice at EY-P is really strong.

I would reach out to both firms and ask them if they can connect you with people in the industrials practices to learn more / help you decide.

like

Yep, I would reach out to the recruiters and ask to speak with people to hear more about the work so you can gauge which sounds more interesting. In terms of brand recognition, EYP will have more in the US (especially given the attachment to EY more broadly). Exit opps will be similar, with some variation depending on the exit industry. For international opportunities, RB will come out ahead.

like

We do a LOT of Ops work at EYP, just that many of them are in context of M&A

Ops person here. EYP for sure. You will have the opportunity to work with PE, Fortune 500, and more, way better exposure.

I wasn’t aware Roland Berger had a presence in U.S. I’d be interested to know the caliber of work they are winning.

If you‘re interested to work in Europe, go with RB. Clearly better recognized in Europe (I lived there), more interesting work and better salaries. Worse wlb. In the US, EYP

RB does have lots of Ops and Industrials work even in the US (I have done dd project there)

Anyone a manager? I’m recently diagnosed (26F) and I can’t help but beat myself up everytime I fall short of my to do list. Makes me feel like a huge disservice to my team. I’ve been trying vitamin D and working out, but it makes my “highs” and “low” SO extreme. The simplest things are so complex in my mind.

If anyone feels similar, how do you manage these feelings? I’m personally considering switching to an individual contributor role, but can’t help but feel like a disappointment if I do.

Hi! I have worked in management roles in tech, mainly in analytics, for approximately 10 years. I now work at the CBC, but I have worked in the private sector too. What is the most realistic way to move to 200K? 1) Continue moving the ladder to a VP position, 2) Switch to Pre-Sale, 3) Switch to Consulting, 4) Work from a U.S. company from Canada.
