Mid year promotions confirmed!
I got a remote L6 SWE offer at Google but the RSUs are too low for that level ($625k over 4 years), could not negotiate it higher. I’ve accepted the offer but trying to be hopeful that I could make it more equitable in the future if I perform well. Are stock refreshers based on the initial RSU grant or solely based on performance? Google

I think the key is you need slim fit or straight leg pants for this to work
The looser ones look and feel a little awkward with sneakers.
Other than that, I feel like just go for it! Lose the tie, choose either funky or solid colour socks (or ankle) and go for it
You won't get used to it without trying it out unfortunately
Agree i love the dress casual look and i very oftern wear a straight leg dress pant and a sneaker. I try to keep the sneakers basic tho and have fun with the pant patterns and usually wear a dress Moto jacket. With a casual top underneath. Either a matching thin dress sweater or the thick T-shirts from Uniqlo their like $20-$25 a shirt but its a thick cotton shirt and looks rich lol. For sure elevates the dress casual vibe.
Pro
- don't wear dress pants, switch to khakis or chinos or jeans, and wear button down shirts that are not made from a formal broadcloth fabric or
- get better fitting, well-constructed dress shoes (a lot of men don't knoe their actual foot size). Get loafers or derbies if you don't wear suits
Whatever you do don't wear those dress shoe upper / sneaker rubber sole hybrids, they are the worst of both worlds

I see, that's helpful context. Then i think the simple white leather sneakers would probably be the easiest to start out, look for Common Projects and its alternatives, avoid shoes that have loud contrasts or logos. For socks I thinked ribbed cotton socks that blend with your pants would work. For dress pants I'm not sure if slim would work, but maybe hemmed a touch shorter so that the shoe is slightly more exposed
In general, with men's formal dress, the idea is to frame your face -- that's why the jacket is shaped the way it is, that's why we used to wear ties, that's why suits are matched in dark colors. Obviously with sneakers we break this rule quite a bit, and are instead drawing attention to our feet. You can counteract this by dressing down the formality (the dude here does it with a crew neck shirt + patch pocket jacket + flannel material suiting and not the formal worsted wool), and bringing enough contrast back towards his face (the white shirt). It is tricky, so you'll need a lot of research, a lot of trial and error, and some brutally honest friends
Don’t do it then. Instead, you can wear more casual leather shoes (e.g. suede, boots, brogues). To rock sneakers with a suit, you really need to know what you’re doing.
And even if you rock it, it’s kinda against the dress-code in most environments (unless you work in creative industries or so).
Maybe start with dressier sneakers like Cole Haans and gradually get used to it 💪🏻
It generally looks pretty bad. The only shoes that look passable with slacks are low profile like common projects.
Check out the startup brand Collegium. They have some kicks that would pair great with dress clothes.
If it helps, I wear white Vejas with slim or cropped dress pants. I find that Vejas just have a more classier look to them than a lot of other sneakers. Here’s an example

It’s easy. You need tailored trousers that are hemmed a little bit higher than your normal trouser length and plain white sneakers like common projects.
If you can pull them off, Jordan 1s can work. You need to own it though
. If you work in a sales-centric company, you gotta be able to bro out
I wear white new balance with various forms of high waisted trousers and an oversized white button down quite often (female)
I mean it probably works because I look really really not like a football coach or dad
You need to wear well-tapered pants with no break in order for it to look good. Otherwise you look like a poorly dressed Dad
Cole haan sneakers with lulu pants go well in my experience

I can’t figure it out either, but a nice classic style is never out of style.
FWIW I don’t wear ties to work, mostly Bonobos or Jcrew chino type pants with dress shirts and variety of vests. Maybe I need tighter pants? My feet and legs/ankles are covered in tattoos so I can’t really go sockless.
Do you guys wear dress socks with your sneakers? What style sneakers? In my non work life I basically wear vans and jeans or Wyatt style boots. I just can’t seem to translate the casual shoe with dress pants
You need to break it up. Try for a pair of suede sneakers to blend with dress trousers. Alternatively, a collared shirt with chinos or 5-pocket and sneakers. Throw a blazer on.
I second trying to go for white, leather lower profile (lifestyle) sneakers (not athletic sneakers).
I also tend to look for examples on Instagram that help visualize how outfits might looks with various styles of shoe/color
