Your doing your job and being respectful, screw their feelings, rock on
Companies made this rule to simplify the process. Estimating age based on appearance isn't always reliable. A policy that requires ID removes arguments about whether someone looks 25, 35, or 55. Just do your job and tell customers: Company Policy.

It’s not a full moon. Maybe the summer solstice?
Lol....that they are! But some people just find every reason to blame someone(s) for something or another issue. Just continue doing what you know and refer them to someone else to maybe better deal with them. I never mind showing people my ID.
Who cares. This is business they can go somewhere else if they don’t like it.
I was a server for over 20 years and haven't been a server for more than 15 years. People were wacky then let alone now.
Don't they realize that if you don't card them you can lose your job? No id no drink. I don't like serving alcohol people are not necessarily more generous and and can be very hard to deal with.
It's not that they don't realize, regarding losing their license or job; it's just that they don't care.
Heck if I'm carded I find it flattering! I am 45 yrs btw and find it awesome when I am carded due to the fact that in my mind OMG they thought I was 21! To me that equals a bigger tip. All jokes aside though you're just doing your job, and it is illegal if you don't or if you get caught serving to minors. Your establishment can also lose their liquor license.
It's because everyone thinks that they are special and deserve special treatment just for being there. They must have all their feelings validated for the grave injustice of being carded.
You can think of it this way and this is what I'd say...
I need to see your I'D please because you look great for someone of your years. If they yell, tell them your sorry but it's part of the job to keep them safe. I'd say that and they'd shut there mouths. Walmart asks for I'd dor stupid paint...you can use that one too
But if they still give you attitude follow it up with "wow, I didn't think you were THAT old!"
I was born to much older parents and it made me hyper sensitive to age. I've never called anyone ma'am nor sir, I've never told anyone they were old, nor implied they were old. I worked at a couple beaches in the summer from the ages of 20 to 23 as a gate attendant, my job was to sell summer beach stickers to residents and our beaches gave free stickers to senior citizens, never wanting to offend anyone, I'd tell people if they knew anyone in their family who was a senior citizen they could go to such and such beach and get the free sticker, even at that age that i was I knew people could be sensitive about their ages. Now if I had a job that I had to card people, I'd just start off by smiling sweetly and saying, "My job is I have to card people before they can purchase alcohol, my I see your ID please."
Remind yourself when things like that happen it's not a you problem. You have to let things like that roll off your shoulder or you'll go insane.
Some people have to find something to control or have power over something or someone else. Honestly not your problem and I wouldn't even worry about them past your face time with them.
Probably becasue you ask for ID from a 59 year old with grey hair and goatee. Ridiculous. I always laugh when I get ID'd. I'm like are you serious. Use you head!!!
I know the only reason I get irritated when I get carded is because I then have to dig it out of my wallet. I’m 58 yrs old and there’s no chance I could be mistaken for being under (or even near) 21 - but I do get that some places card everyone.
There are undercovers that show up specifically to ensure you do card people, and I'm sure some would pretend to take offense to see if you cave and don't card people just to avoid the issue. You just keep to it. If they don't like it, it's store/company policy to card everyone and you just work there. If they don't comply, take the alcohol back and tell them thanks for coming. You don't need to lose your job over someone's tantrum.
And as far as addressing folks, sad to say, people take offense over everything these days. If you call someone "miss" instead of "ma'am" because you think that's more general, you'll have some huffy person wave their wedding ring in front of your face and go "it's MRS.!" Dunno anybody who just up and says "have a good day, mrs.!", so I can't think of another word but "ma'am". Then again, I'm SE Texan... ma'am has been in our vocabulary since diaper time.
Actually, you have no choice carding people. It's the law and you want to keep your job. Ignore the sensitive people. They can't appreciate what you do and have to do. As far as Ma'am, it is short for "Madam", and a proper term of address, like when you call a guy "Sir". If they can't appreciate your attempt to offer a proper greeting, you just have to ignore the lack appreciation of you being nice and addressing them!
common sense man, If you have to ID a person who is clearly over 50 then YOU look foolish....sure it might be the SOP, but c'mon man.
I rather be carded than be called ma'am...lol
Maybe the crystal generation is getting older
