Are you just telling us or is there a question here...
Question is what is the bowls opinion on taking it, I ran out of space and thought that would be assumed.
I’d personally take the pay bump and WLB even with the risk. You’re still young and if it doesn’t work out in a couple years you’d be fine finding a new job. Plus, sticking around for security when you don’t even love your current position seems a little silly.
Agree, it’s partner or bust and my group is crazy hours to get partner. Like they said your on the track, but watching my senior M consistently pull 6am to 10pm minimum 4x days a week is scary
6 years of working experience. Now you are a manager making 130k. That seems normal in advisory.
Do you take the bigger offer (I think I’d get it) and expose so risk of failing that role versus riding our partner attempt knowing more money is 6 years away. I am not that happy back in bit 4 even though I’m on good project with good exposure. Not sure I have what it takes to handles the hours or don’t want to. I could do it but value WLB more. So do I take the risk for the massive bump and more WLB with less guaranteed future.
Why did you leave consulting for sales, and why did you come back? It sounds like your career plan, if you even have one, is does not sound well thought out. Is that new opportunity aligned to any of your professional goals aside from more pay and shorter hours? It sounds like it is not.
And you only have an interview, not offer, right? Don't count your chickens too soon!
Appreciate. Real simple, left consulting burnt out and wanted to learn tech. Learned tech, sold a company and couldn’t find the right sales role so went back to a place I’d learn more... which is my role now. I’ve never stopped looking at roles or interviewing. I met with another one today that’s even better. People want my skill set, which was purposely and very thought out. I’ve worked in consulting, including strategy, ops, architecture and PMO. For tech I’ve done SW, HW, Networking, Cloud, Data Center and emerging tech like 5g, blockchain and AI. I wanted to learn how it all works and did. I also advise two tech start ups in Boston. I don’t care about the track record. I’ve never said no to learning something new or taking on a new challenge. This has led me to travel the world and build an incredible network with all big tech and many fortune 100 execs. So, sorry for pumping my own tires and being defensive, but I totally get how it looks on the surface and I take that risk head on. However, I speak for the kids who are trapped or stuck in a job... I want them to feel free and have the ability to actually do whatever they want because I have. True visionaries vibe with me. No regrets. Just needed someone to give me a reality check and you did. I appreciate that.
