I always have trouble talking to old hiring managers. They seem to forget that tech changes daily, They still think like it 2005.
Setting up a strong foundation would help. Let people do the work they are good at. After a few times, when you can prove you can do it, you should get more of that trust. Probably takes some time. Has anyone had similar experiences outside of recruiting? My boss, where I am now, I thought was an awful micromanager, but they eased up after seeing I could get it done, and done correctly.
Being one of the first recruiters is hard because you have to earn trust from day one. Aligning with a founder’s bar and an evolving vision is usually the biggest challenge. Once you prove impact through good hires, autonomy follows quickly.
I’m about to be… there’s someone who’s been doing it at the same time as their VP job and have certain things in place but I’m hoping they can learn to trust my experience in making some edits to process/comms.
