I actually think this all the time. I have a friend whose taught middle school social studies and history for years, this year I had to take a step back from our friendship after finding out what she was "teaching" to her students. I can't associate with teachers who teach hatred or see their role as less teacher and more preacher. It's irresponsible and it's dangerous. Teach the facts. In English we get to explore more nuanced feelings about the issues which is why I think English teachers are less likely to fall down that rabbit hole. We also have more practice identifying a real source vs a fake one in my opinion.
Why is it arrogant? The bottom line is a math teacher teaches strictly math… We have to teach ideas and subtle concepts. That are way beyond numbers.
I think, when done well, there tends to be a certain amount of cross over between content areas like English and Social Studies.

I agree the places/ subjects where there are less nuances to play with can be a platform to possibly reinforce what was taught…. For good measure.
Man, what an arrogant take.
