I got my lowest raise this year thus far and it was a promo year; can say all firms are pushing salaries down but you can get paid better at B4 so go there. Masters/CPA don't affect raise in PA, just YOE
8% raise isn’t terrible although it is at the lower end of the spectrum 8%-13%. In HCOL you should be 85k-95k so you’re definitely being underpaid
Also, if anyone is looking for a Senior Associate in Public Accounting shoot me a DM.
Ummmm - hi. Do you have a specialty? I need a senior yesterday. 🤣
What are the other new senior associates making?
I was asking OP
What market? That matters a lot.
It’s absolutely untrue that a CPA doesn’t affect your raise. Most firms will not promote you to manager without it. That’s a higher pay range.
Yeah im looking for new job, but it's incorrect to imply it's because of my certification timeline that led to me being underpaid
So you think you deserve an 18% increase? I guess you don’t realize that moving to senior associate isn’t a real promotion. You moved up a level but it’s not a “promotion”.
I’m quite sure all the firms do a bigger pay bump when you get the senior title. Doesn’t matter whether they do it in 2 or 3 years.
My seniors are between 80-100, plus bonus, benefits, and 401k contribution. I work in speciality SALT tax Big4 and have three requisitions open for seniors right now and have been very frustrated with the talent pool. Hit me up if you’re interested. Geographically agnostic.
Entitled much?
I feel like I could’ve written this post. New senior promoted at 78k, got my CPA this year. High performer, high billables. Insanely pissed.
What size firms are you working at? You’re not going to get big 4 pay at these small firms. If you want that pay, you need to switch firms.
Clearly this firm isn’t one of them….
What area
Chief
Having the second highest billables in your dept is not a relevant data point, how were your billables vs the target required billable?
I started at 81 when I made senior without my CPA. That was 3 years ago.
not sure what firm you work at, but for me when i was early promoted, i only received the promotion raise (7.5%). You won’t get the merit raise until the regularly scheduled time, but will be based on your higher salary, so will in turn be making more than you would’ve been
My daughter just made senior at a midsize regional firm ( maybe 100 employees) and gets a little less than that, but she does get overtime and is 95% remote, which I figure compensates for the lower base, although we are in HCOL.
You are underpaid. Our first year audit senior associates in MCOL are $97k. Plus I got a 17% bonus last year.
Get used to having high utilization and mediocre raises. That's the life of a public accountant. Or just be smart and go in house ASAP. Fewer hours, no timesheets, and more money. Win-win all around.
