They’re using you. Firms love milking high performers who won’t say no—document everything and be ready to walk if they won’t pay up.

A1 that’s quite literally the business model. Bill as much as you can for a fixed cost asset.

Sounds like the time to create/double down on your boundaries and advocate for yourself. Your career is a 2 way street, if you are not getting what you need there then you are no longer in alignment. Find that alignment elsewhere where you will be valued and paid your worth.

I don’t wanna burst the bubble before folks have had coffee but There is no such thing as a quiet. If you’re an associate in big law is highly unlikely you are indispensable.

If you’ve left today, the business would in fact be just fine

Maybe I’m not understanding. The pay thing I get. Should maybe negotiate for that or “take your talents to South Beach.” That said, every firm is different but in many biglaw firms you’re an Associate for 5-6 years before you’re even *considered* for a title bump to Senior Counsel, with increasing responsibilities as you progress from a junior to mid-level, to senior (and often those are descriptors, not formal titles). And don’t get me started on the “bump” to non-equity partner.

At the end of the day, we are all replaceable billing units. That’s the business we are in and we make more than most professions on average. That said, it is very hard to find reliable talent, so if you are truly indispensable, you should get a bonus and be on track for partner. Otherwise, leave ASAP because there are plenty of firms that will pay you reasonably well to produce reliable work while generating a lot of income.

How are 1st year litigation associates dealing with WFH? I’ve been having terrible anxiety/panic attacks, and pretty sure my billables wont exceed 110 for April. I’ve been super stressed about it and don’t know how to move on to May with the proper mindset to make up for as much time missed as possible.
