I got offered an L6 role at Google, but I know I should be an L7 and that's what I interviewed for. No one will tell me why.

Just curious - How do you know it should be an L7 role?

like

The market is very competitive for senior talent in tech. If this is lateral or down level, I would say "I'm not moving for a lateral. Call me when you have something that's a better fit." They have invested a lot to get to HC and offer. You have to be prepared to walk away. If you come in too low, it will always bother you. Trust me. L6>L7>L8 is HARD.

like

Classic Google. You might be able to at least negotiate for L7 comp. The L6-L7 promo is a pretty tough one, so I wouldn't assume you will be going up for promo within a year of joining

This happens all the time with interviews and I have been on the other side. Everyone can say yes to hiring, but not for the level e.g. "I vote yes but for senior 1, not senior 2.". That's probably what happened and they are not going to want to tell you that. Take it for what it is, an offer but for one rung lower. It's not personal.

The folks interviewing you set the level with their feedback.

My parents are visiting this week and mom and I made dinner tonight. Salmon is seasoned with Trader Joe’s ajika (a Georgian spice blend) and we just roasted the broccoli. We used the recipe from Yotam Ottolenghi and Sami Tamimi’s cookbook, Jerusalem.
