I had the chance to join some fellow teachers at a mini-conference in a town about an hour away from our school. The district paid for us to stay the night and attend workshops and lectures for two days. It is the first time I have done this, and I had a blast! Does your school or district have these opportunities? It was fun to increase my knowledge but also stay in a different place at the same time.

I feel like I'm at my wits end. I teach self-contained classes and according to the ISBE website my classes shouldn't be more than 8 students unless I have an aide - then it can be 10. I have no aide and most of my classes are around 14 kids. Some with behavior plans that are only out of our behavior room setting for my class... Is anybody else out there going through illegal class sizes for self-contained? How are you dealing? Maybe a vent session is in order.

I don’t know about you, but this year, I want to get better at having a work/life balance. I love having the time in the summer to do things around the house, but struggle when the school year starts. Question about IEP goals if anyone can help. If a student has an OT goal (say being able to zip coat or put on shoes without assistance) and the IEP says person responsible is the OT, is that all on them? I understand I could also work on it too in class but when IEP comes, they are responsible for writing the IEP portion and talking about that? Same with speech and language provider?

HELP! 30+ years of teaching Sped and I’m at a loss. 6th grade student in Middle School with Doose syndrome. Prior to MS, the elementary said he never caused problems. Since the 1st day, he is disruptive in class, refuses to work, and is disrespectful. He has a one-on-one para but she is in tears most days because of his behavior. Parents agreed with a behavior plan - he thinks it’s a game. Parents say he is not allowed to be this way at home.

I have a parent that I questioning the accommodations we are providing to her daughter. Accommodations can be amended but the student does not do any work at home. Help!
