I did that for a year. I made around 40K and it wasn’t enough even in the early 2000s in a non-coastal state! Yes, you get your licenses and they involve a lot of self study and the exams are (in my opinion anyway) harder than the adjuster exam. And this to be customer service and office support and take s—t from the agent. I had some commission from sales too, but the end product was circa 40K.
I think you need to get into something else. It
was good experience for me for one year. Valuable for the knowledge but I knew most everything I needed to after the year.
Why don’t you look at some of the big insurance companies and see if you can start in customer service for one of them? You will get better benefits, better pay, possibly a salary differential for being bilingual and the opportunity to move up. You can try for adjuster or underwriting. More money.
I agree; consider something else in the industry. Look for claims or underwriting trainee positions and move your way up. When you work for a large carrier, there is so much room for growth. The pay and benefits are also much better.
I wouldn't resign until I had another offer. The job market is tough right now and unless you can afford to be unemployed for awhile, then start applying and stay put.
Hi guys, thank you for your comments.
I've been applying for some underwriting assitant/trainee that don't require any type of underwriting designations, i think with my P&C license and experience is fine for a entry leve position.
Haven't have any luck yet, but putting some hard work and effort.
Would you guys share any tips for interviews in the industry? I know about the STAR method and been studying about it but any tip is well received.
Thank you
