Is there any end/expiration date for DSARs? How are DSARs reconciled with record retention and deletion requirements?

You should keep a record of rights requests for as long as you might need under applicable local statute of limitations to show you have records that you received and appropriately responded to the request.

If you asked for ID documents as part of the process, those should be kept for a very short time only, essentially as long as needed to verify them.

Additional Posts in Privacy Law

Does anyone here have experience as a combined Privacy Officer and Privacy Counsel role or working with a combined role? We’re deliberating combining those roles at my company, chiefly to save headcount and budget. I have some concerns about someone serving both roles at once (e.g. maintaining privilege), but that could just be me.

Thoughts on moving from med tech to manufacturing? I moved from in-house tech to in-house med tech a couple years ago. Now, given the poor WLB, I am considering making the move out of tech, despite it being an exponentially growing industry. With all the changes in privacy laws re: marketing/advertising, I believe manufacturing would still offer good privacy experience. Thoughts?

Hi all! I’m inclined on taking up the CIPM training and certification exam. I’m already a certified Data Protection Officer in the Philippines. I intend on skipping CIPP as it applies to the US and EU.

How difficult was the exam? Can you share your experience studying for the CIPM exam? Is it advisable to skip CIPP?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi all,
Been doing privacy for about a year now in-house. Got my CIPP/US.
Having major imposter syndrome still. I feel like the minute I finally have a grasp, something changes. The law and nuances just seem overwhelming. Maybe it’s just a lack of guidance/uniformity in the US. I’m not sure if I feel this way because it is simply the nature of the work or because I’m just not capable.
