A lower risk option (zero risk of losing capital) for 10k is a U.S. Treasury IBond, which atm is returning over 7%. I've started shifting our emergency fund to that. (Limit 10k/person/yr)
For 10 years, put that into index funds. Don't worry about short term fluctuations.
