I don't think it matters that you don't have UX Research experience. I currently work as a UX Researcher at an agency where companies like Citi, Meta, Apple, Google, Walmart, IKEA, MetLife, Mayo Clinic, etc. hire us to do the research for their product owners/designers and share back the data and findings plus our UX design recommendations. What we learn from the UXR we do for our clients is much different than anything you'd find in articles online to be honest. I'd imagine it's more important as a designer to know which findings/recs to take action on and that you're able to confidently translate them for your engineers.
I had worked in an agency before as a UI/UX designer with an additional UX designer and it was perfect. It was only a short project though and the agency was small and paid chips.
I’d also worked in-house for fresh tech startups that had a huge budget, but low UX maturity, so my knowledge was enough and money was great. I just felt that as a sole designer I can’t learn from anyone to develop my skills.
Never worked for a staffing agency or a corporation. Should I look into it?
Also I suck at anything business and strategy and never analysed data other than heat maps
