If you do go to Barcelona, I suggest:
- La Sagrada Familia (of course)
- Taking the funicula up to Tibidabo (you can hit the classic amusement park up there, which is pretty cool because it’s so old but still safe or just take in the amazing views since it overlooks the whole city)
- The Picasso museum, which has his oldest works pre-blue period and all that
- Park Guell (and walking by the apartment building Gaudí designed if you have time)
- Walking Las Ramblas, esp early evening
- Hitting the beach (there’s a topless one if that is your jam)
You need tickets ahead of time for La Sagrada Familia, the Picasso museum and Park Guell to avoid long lines or getting shut out entirely. Also, if you are a fan of Salvador Dalí, there is an amazing museum an hour’s train ride away in Figueres that my family really enjoyed.
We stayed in the Gothic quarter, which I would really recommend if you want to do an Airbnb. The Gothic quarter is pretty incredible and an area you want to see anyway, and there are so many good restaurants right in that area.
Have fun!
In barcelona, make sure you go to jamon market called Mercado de La Boqueria if you love meats like prosciutto and etc. Amazing and you can try sampler from each vendor and price is reasonable
Barcelona was super cool. It’s got the beach, the city, and mountains. Also some really cool architecture from Gaudi- definitely have to see Park Guell and the la Sagrada Familia cathedral!
I haven’t been to Seville but really wanted to go. And I have been to Madrid and wasn’t as inspired but it was still nice to visit!
Barcelona is phenomenal. I highly recommend staying at Seventy Barcelona. Also, my favorite tapas place is Bar Cañete. Make a reservation!
I'd probably cut it down to two places out of the four to get a better feel for each place and able to take things in, trying to hit all four will probably be a lot of time lost to transit - haven't been to Seville or San Sebastian but there's plenty in Madrid and Barca to keep you busy
Sorry, I was vague. I’m hoping to trim down this list; which cities would you suggest and how would you recommend splitting the days?
I would do Madrid and Barcelona, also take day trips to Toledo from Madrid. 😊 7-8 days should be good for that
Agree on cutting to two if you are only there for a week. Barcelona is fantastic with SO many cool things to do, and Sevilla is a cool smaller city that has clear Moroccan influence.
I didn’t love Madrid because it just felt like another huge city and like it could have been anywhere, though the art museum there is pretty fantastic (as is the nightlife). My brother lived in Madrid for a while and said Toledo was his favorite city in Spain, so that’s another to consider.
Thanks for saying that about Madrid. I found Barcelona and even Valencia much more fun than Madrid.
Pick two- probably madrid and barcelona then do a day trip or two in there. Id second Toledo. Sevilla and San Sebastian are great and worth trips but you just dont have enough time IMO! Yeah you cal hop by a city and say you went every 2 days but that isnt really seeing anywhere. It’s just hopping around to say you went
We stopped at Peniscola on a whim and loved it (live in the old town). Also, Valencia was an unexpected gem. How are you getting around the country? You are literally all over the place and might be better to focus on the Southern Coast? Barcelona—>Valencia—>Seville? + Granada and Mallaca?
Sorry, I should’ve clarified. I’m trying to pick among the cities above! What would you suggest?
What did you like about Valencia?
Sevilla for sure! Alcazar is a must-see, food is amazing and a very walkable, bike-friendly city.
Stay in a hostel. That's how you meet locals and other travelers. If you like a good party, go to Barcelona beach at night.
Checkout Valencia for the beaches, aquarium and one of the best fresh markets in Europe.
Watch out for pickpockets. Especially in Barce
At this time of year, I’d recommend Seville and maybe duck over to Malaga or Granada. The other places are all lovely but I’d probably visit those Spring-Autumn
So, one of (if not the most) underrated places to visit is Asturias.
A gem like no other, and probably the most unknown, better in early summer (may, june).
For the first travel, bcn, mad, Donosti or Sevilla looks good for cultural things, missing probably Granada.
Also i did this with barcelona, madrid, toledo, bilbao, valencia, and ibiza for 14 days. What i did was 2-3 days in each city and make sure i atleast get a full day in each city. 1 day for flying in or by train and 1 full day for exploring, and the next day to move to a different city. U can have similar approach. If that makes sense. I regret going to barcelona because everything was overpriced and very touristy. Toledo and bilbao were amazing and i’d recommend. Get a car and drive through these cities and there are some sites where Game of Thrones were filming and i went, it was amazing.
If you like museum, there is a really famous museum called guggenheim museum in bilbao and it was one of the best museum i’ve ever visited!
Sevilla is dope news.
Do San Sebastián, it's amazing and the food is unreal

Got it, yeah I was thinking the same. Maybe will have to save San Sebastián for my next trip, unless you think I should drop Sevilla for it?
Majorca island for sure. So beautiful and charming town.
