Wear a suit and tie. Wear a light blue shirt. White will pop too much on camera and can wash out your face (more of an issue for white people like myself). Avoid pinstripes and busy tie patterns, which will draw attention to any laggy/pixelated picture.
As a former TV producer, yes to all of this!! Sit with your camera at eye level, address the camera directly and allow yourself to stand if that’s more comfortable. Take this seriously - pretend you’re a newscaster.
I had one of these last week. Wear a suit and tie and make sure you have a plain background. This is actually a time for you to standout from someone who may not take it as serious. Trust me the partners will be watching and take notice if you don't.
Of course you do. Why wouldn't you?
Legal recruiter here-- please wear a suit and tie at least up top!!
Thanks everyone for your thoughts and advice. I used all of it and I think the interview went well.
No need to wear pants
At my day job I’ve been conducting a lot of interviews lately. I echo the suggestion to look into the camera when you speak. If you don’t do that, I recommend turning off your self view (feature in Zoom) or whatever else you can do to reduce the likelihood that you’ll stare at yourself while you speak.
