Yup - I lost 10 pounds when I got my puppy from all the walking. ~1.5+ hours a day with him.
I gained quite a bit of weight since March. About a month ago, I got a treadmill and started walking 30-60 minutes a day, and started taking much more care with what I eat. I’m now down about 5 pounds - but I attribute weight loss to 99% to diet, not exercise. What I do think the walking has done for me is a act as a motivating factor and a stress reliever. I think eating well makes me feel good and want to exercise. And exercise makes me feel good and want to eat well. So I don’t think only walking will cause massive weight loss. But for me it’s been a really helpful component to bigger changes.
Hiking!!!
All that is necessary to lose weight is a calorie deficit. Walking burns calories and could help you increase the calorie deficit. That said, diet is the most important part. Calories in, calories out. Once you find what your “calories out” are (which varies from person to person), just limit the calories in to be less than that.
What you eat and don’t eat is the biggest factor to lose weight. Exercise is important, it’s great for your health, the human body was made to move and walking is a very safe way to do that. You will sleep better too and avoid future problems. Walking is great, I love it!
