I have always been career focused and recently decided to get my eggs frozen in case I wanted children at a later point in my life. I’m 36. We were only able to get two viable eggs and it’s really got me thinking about the future. Has anyone out there prioritized career, not had kids - and then came to regret it?

On the other side of the coin, it is extremely taboo to have kids and acknowledge you regret it.

This is a great point. Not all kids become functioning, loving, empathetic adults. People don’t like to talk about this.

I'm also career oriented, now 41, and I regret prioritizing career over family. No kids, no family, only freedom and my job. Also I regret that I wasted too much time and forgot to freeze eggs. Now I think it's too late

like

You did the best you could with the info you had. Give yourself grace. For what it's worth I froze eggs in my 40s that turned into embryos. If it's that important to you, you can see a reproductive endocrinologist to see how your levels are and assess options.

If you really want children, do not wait and rely on egg freezing. This is sold as a viable solution to deferring parenthood because of your career or not being certain you want children, but it is a very difficult process and does not always work. Do not delay if you really want children. Mother Nature is not always kind!

like

I’m honestly just career oriented because I have to be. If I wasn’t single I would prioritize kids and family. Just haven’t been able to find the right person. So, I make efforts to make sure I do well for myself and can live on my own and pay bills and still go out and have fun. It’s a fun life for sure. But I would have no problem having a house in the suburbs and being a stay at home mom lol.

I think this question is better answered by women in their 60s and 70s (regret) but Im also 37 with no kids and still on the fence about it. Married, so I can, but it just seems like more work than I wanna deal with

I’m 42, no kids, don’t regret it at all. However, I pretty much always knew I didn’t want kids.

I am sorry for what you are going through! I know this isn't your question, but notice you said "we." If you have a partner, would you consider creating and freezing embryos versus freezing eggs so you know what you have (there's a ton of attrition when you thaw eggs and fertilize)? You could also do this without a partner with donor sperm but totally understand that's a very personal decision. Also, each retrieval cycle is truly very different, so a second may yield different results. I had dramatic egg thaws and thought I had proper "insurance" so just wanted to share in case helpful. Good luck, whichever you decide!

It’s not too late if this is what you want.
Maybe you can ask yourself; ‘Did I achieve enough in my career? If I had to stop my career progression for the next 3-5 years would it hurt me more than not to have children ? Is it a matter of timing? Of having the wrong partner?’
I agree that kids are a real career stopper. However, if you are at a point in your career where you can afford to invest a few years in building your family then…why not?
There are ways to handle both family and career if you have the financial flexibility for it. Having a full time nanny, having a regular cleaning lady …

Nope. Also 36, don’t have kids, don’t want kids, and won’t change my mind.

I spoke to a retired lawyer the other day. Over 65 of age and she def regrets it. She told me she had a very successful career could do anything she wanted financially but is now at an age where she would like to be surrounded by family. She always spoiled her nephews and nieces but doesn’t believe they will be there for her the way her own child would.

There are people who have kids and regret it. They are a really career stopper especially if the father does not share the load and many still do not. They really make a dent on relationships. Some kids are very difficult and despite the efforts turn out to be unhappy miserable adults. Even if you hear from 100 people who have regretted not having kids, you would hear from other 100 who have regretted having them. So it is really what you want and what is right for you.

Just restarted stimulants and already I'm dealing with twitches again. Does anyone else get these? No type of pain or anything just every once and a while my body will twitch strongly. Afterward I feel normal, but it's a bit annoying, and I can't control it at all which is a little disconcerting. Don't remember this from when I took stimulants as a kid, but it's been a while.

Anyone struggling with imposter syndrome? When I worked for a very well known Fortune500 tech company I couldn't help but feel major imposter syndrome. One- I am a woman in a male dominated industry, I didn't go to a prestigious school like most of my peers and I just didn't think I deserved to be there. Everyday was a struggle and tried to keep myself small so no one would find out I was a "fraud." Looking back on it now, wiser and more experienced, I realized how detrimental feeling that way
