I agree, don't give up yet!! If you're getting interviews then your resume is looking good and you are qualified for the roles. You may want to look into some interview tips and practice improving your interview skills (even though I'm sure you are a talented interviewer, I just think if there's anywhere to improve that might be your best chance since you've gotten to that point a few times).
Thanks! Appreciate the feedback
It’s hard to transition from public accounting to industry, especially in this hiring environment. I was so confident I would get a job immediately and was surprised that it wasn’t the case. You just need to get lucky and get that one job in industry and you’ll end up being solid going forward. It’s just crazy the lack of value they’re placing on public accounting nowadays. I blame the dumb auditors who ask dumb questions (I’ve now gone through an audit on this side and was in shock the stupid questions I received omg…I see why we got a bad rap sometimes).
😆 I totally understand. Thank you for sharing your experience! Appreciate it
Thanks as I am in the same situation and it's very frustrating.
I would just keep trying if I were you. Being an audit manager is one of the most flexible positions in all of finance in terms of job options. Advisory roles all deal with more niche processes that automatically disqualify you from being considered for jobs.
Thanks, appreciate the perspective
I would try for an outsourced accounting role so it’s not always industry specific but you are getting experience. As a previous controller, I would hire someone with accounting exp over audit only any day. I understand we are all under this finance/accounting umbrella but most accounting errors I see come from tax and audit staff.
I understand where you are coming from. Thanks for the feedback!
Are you working with a recruiter? If not, I would suggest you do. The recruiter can match you up with clients who are looking specifically for someone just out of public accounting. I'm manage SOX compliance and when I look for a staff, I put that I prefer someone from Big 4 or someone with audit background.
