I have my one year review coming up. How can I maximize the odds of getting the best raise possible?
I am a contractor and the company loves me. I was told to expect a 3 - 5 percent increase (I know cost of living plus tiny bit) and at one point my manager said that was on the agency's side. Implying a possible company-side as well? (The company where I sit.)
I guess my question is two-fold. I know I can negotiate for that COL raise, but how do I maximize this to get more?

Just found out that end of the year I will be promoted from analyst directly to VP and since it’s such a large jump I’ll be the lowest paid VP in asset management at only $135k TC. I was approached on LinkedIn for an early career recruiting role in DFW, TX. I don't have direct experience, but I have the university experience/connections from working in career services. Interviewing at a dream company, and right from the first interview the recruiter told me we are way off on salary expectations. Im a pastry cook with 4yrs experience and the average salary start for this position is now at $22/hr here in vegas, especially in the strip. But cooking/baking is not my passion. So im changing into veterinary medicine and im seeing that the starting rate for a vet tech is around $16-18. Why is that?? Why are people in the vet med industry being paid so low?? Something needs to change. Labor of love aint enough for the people in this job.

Started a new job a year ago, high performer. My manager suggested a promotion to Product Manager since that‘s the work I’m doing, but that would be a 50% raise. Higher ups decided instead to make a “new role” (not PM), that has no analog in the company and is hard to price via Glassdoor, etc. I feel like this is to limit my promotion salary to something like 10% from where it currently is.
