Any recommendations to make sure I get a good year-end review (and raise)? Im a second year attorney at a good firm doing insurance defense. I have no billing requirement. My firm doesn’t really do bonuses, but they do annual raise. I get along well with the partners. I’m looking for ways to go the extra mile and make sure my review is good.

All firms care about is whether you make them money, and whether or not you make life easier for the partners. If you want to get a raise, do both so you have ammo when asking. In other words, bill and anticipate needs.

For your first by three years, treat the partners as your clients. Make life better for them and even if you don't have a requirement, show that your billing is increasing consistently, and you'll be good

So my approach is to get feedback as often as possible, maybe quarterly so if there are issues you can fix them. And if nothing and you get ambushed at the end of year, say that you asked and weren’t told anything.

No billing requirement! I wish 🤦🏻‍♀️😲

Any struggling paralegals here? Do you feel like your financial situation is affecting your productivity at work? I like the work I do but the pay really sucks. I feel like the fear of not being able to pay some bills on time is affecting my productivity. I’ve asked for a raise but that may not still cut it, and idk if that will go through or not.

When I was hired, I don't recall being informed about my salary being tied to my location. My employment contract also only makes one mention of location, and says "home office" and my state. I was recently told by HR though that if I move, my comp. will be lower. Is this legal? Should I consult a labor lawyer?

In my mind, I don't recall being told this and it's not clear from my employment contract, so I feel like they're breaking our agreement, and it feels unfair.

Thoughts on what to do?

So I've been at my job for 5+ years as a data analyst/back office support team. I made my way up into making a little over $40k. I've been WFH the past 2 yrs and overtime more than half my team has now been pulled out to work for a diff department which resulted in me taking 90% of our daily tasks to handle. I'm at a point where the salary I'm getting is disrespectfully low for all the work I do. Should I ask for a raise? And if so, how do I go about asking without sounding greedy.

For those who like litigation, but not personal injury and premises liability claims, why areas are you feeling the most traction in while looking for lateral moves to other firms?

I worked FT as a paralegal and went to law school in the evening. I recently interviewed at a small ID firm in employment law with about 9 attorneys. They asked for a writing sample. I dont have anything recent but provided what I had from last yr in a legal writing class, it was not enough for them. I became licensed this May so I dont have an array of motions to pick from. Then they asked for my undergrad transcript, at this point, I am now annoyed They are not Biglaw. Are they going overboard
