Worried about potential recession and layoffs...
Crossroads Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. I have been with the organization almost 6 years and have accomplished achievement of my MSL (Masters Strategic Leadership) and LOVE the organization…BUT…I am not having any success in moving into a new position…my interviews are great experiences but it seems to be a pattern of not being selected yet encouraged to continue applying…received information from a mentor/manager to ask for candid feedback…when is enough…ENOUGH??

I wouldn’t say that’s accurate. Why would people not want to hire you especially if you weren’t fired for cause? In any case, it’s all about how you spin it. You’ll get the most traction now if you apply, just pretend like you’re still working
The reality is, layoffs often are not a reflection on you but rather on the firm. So address why the firm laid off a significant percent of the group, and that it was not a result of your performance. Don’t spend more than 1-2 sentences on it. Then just focus the rest of the interview on why you are a right fit for the role you’re interviewing for and don’t come back to the lay-off part.
I was laid off recently not due to performance. In interviews, I just say the firm made the decision in order to restructure and reorganize its priorities, which included downsizing my practice. Nobody has asked anything beyond that.
As long as it wasn’t your individual performance, there isn’t a need to elaborate. Just make sure you don’t sound bitter when discussing it and talk about how you’re excited to work for their firm and how your skills and experience will be mutually beneficial.
Thanks SM, appreciate your feedback.
Deloitte?
Layoffs suck and are so often due to tunnel vision of shareholder price versus caring for the people who drive that shareholder price. It’s a great market for anyone looking right now. Get your resume out there ASAP and they will come to you. You don’t need to tell anyone you got laid off, just that you are looking for new opportunities.
Not sure it is the case respectfully.
Let me ask you the question :
Say you are a top performer in a practice of 100 consultants and
the bonus funding is 20% of the total cost of salaries or 10% of revenue.
Pipeline shows shortage in revenue equivalent of 10 FTE on the bench
How many of the consultants in this practice would rather have no bonus and keep full employment rather management drop headcount ?
before we eve. get to shareholders :)
I got laid off from my last job and deloitte hired me. Not an issue at all.

It says PA, but this role is in NYC
I’ve been laid off from my last 3 jobs and fortunately was scooped up very quickly to better opportunities each time. Being laid off isn’t a black mark. It’s really only hurt my negotiating power.
