From my somewhat limited understanding (i.e., entertainment law class in school and a few experiences in practice) entertainment law is really just a mashup of multiple areas of law and industry practice/norms
If you don’t mind me asking - how did you parlay your previous experience for that position?
The owner of the company didn’t care too much about my past experience actually, but I was able to explain that I did some contract drafting work in law school. She was more looking to see if I would be interested in the work and why I applied for the position. I said that I don’t enjoy litigation and just left my M&A job in search of something different
Any gig that gives you entertainment law cred is a job worth taking. That said, SOME of these jobs have high turnover, demand long hours for low pay, and take advantage of folks seeking to break in. If that applies here, get some experience and move on. Good luck!
Because I’ve found that the general perception of employers is that no one wants to train you and everyone wants experienced people. So if you have no actual experience in the business, you’re by definition not a good fit regardless of what else you bring to the table. Even so, some experience - even in a different area of the business that has no application to a new employer - is perceived as better than no experience at all.
