I just received an offer from EY for sfo internal control senior position! I am hesitate to accept this offer because I am not sure whether EY will continue laying off consulting people! I really like the partner and the team who interviewed with me! I will probably work with the team who interviewed me! Can anyone give me some advice! Can someone from EY give some inside opinion about Ey laidoff! I also received an offer from a small firm providing similar compensation. Thanks ahead!

I think pick EY 9.9 times out of 10. Small firms will do layoffs too if necessary. At least with EY you have better brand recognition and better clients that will give you a better consulting experience. Smaller consulting firms typically work with smaller clients that are absolutely messes.

If they’re hiring people for a specific group, they have a business need (ie more clients). I’d be surprised if they hire people just to lay them off soon after. They wouldn’t spend the money to do that.
If you don’t feel like asking straight up, you can ask what the group’s typical utilization has been and what’s the goal. They (typically) wouldn’t lay people off if they have a really high utilization and need more people in that group

I believe the softness in the advisory market across most big 4 firms is within technology/systems consulting, implementations and tech enablement.
Internal controls / risk market isn't exactly expanding, but isn't currently contracting either.
