. I landed a job here in London and started in my role on 25th March. Instead of crediting the 7 days march salary as arrear, payroll team added it to current month (April Salary). Because of this I lost tax relief of about 800£ (Tax relief as I didn't have any income here in UK in preceding year). I requested them the reason for doing so. I received following response from Payroll “Tax is calculated as at the date it is paid, not when it was worked”. Do all companies do this?

Can someone please help me to claim TaxRelief from HMRC on the pay from 25th March - 5th April which falls under last fiscal year (I have no income from last fiscal year apart from this. My income last year does not exceed 12750 non taxable limit).

Thanks in advance

Nothing you can do. Totally normal. You joined after March payroll cut off so were paid in full in April
Taxing point is date of payment in April.

If I’m contributing to my Roth 401k vs pretax 401k and my employer matches 10% of my contributions. My employer match be 10% on my post tax contributions right? Technically meaning I’ll be getting less of my 10% employer match then if I were to do pretax 401k since that match would be on a higher amount?

I am an associate at an AM200 firm and was (IMO) very clear prior to accepting this role that I value work-life balance and wanted to try to keep work at night on the weekends to a minimal, but since February, it seems like it’s always something that requires my time as needed disregarding “business hours” or my personal schedule. Thoughts on whether to bring this up or continue to be a team player until I burn out and pay off my student loans?
