I believe this does fall under wrongful termination. Get a lawyer or file for unemployment. You were taking time off for a dependent, and you had a doctors note. Definitely do not let this go. Good luck!

OP, this sounds like a potential issue with FMLA if you were off to take care of your dependent. Get that answer from HR in writing and then contact an employment attorney.
