I moved into a more strategic “human capital” role, but leadership just wants quick wins and isn’t sold on bigger, long-term talent investments. Any tricks for getting the C-suite on board with stuff that doesn’t have an instant ROI?

Saying this from my experience. Tie your proposals to pain points that matter to them, like reduced turnover or improved productivity and share simple case studies showing small wins that snowballed into major value. Having some data, even if it’s anecdotal goes a long way.

Human capital is not where the c suite wants to spend money right now. As a human capitalist, I dread what we do today. We’re not “transforming organizations”, we’re the quickest way to a budget cut it many ways.

The trick for me? Constantly show cost savings and sneak your long term strategy in between the cracks.

Demonstrate negative impacts to culture and the connection to costs such as talent flight risks, acquisition time and costs, talent gap requiring expensive contractors, or labor union impacts.

I have a return offer from a big 4! Thoroughly enjoyed the experience as an intern and have no complaints. Would love to go back.

However, a bit confused if I should try and recruit with MBB’s or if I should accept the big 4 offer already and take the sign on bonus?

Would it be a blunder to NOT try recruiting with MBB’s ? Besides the monetary aspect, what are the other things I’d have to think about?

This does two things for the business 1) creates visibility around performance individuals, departments and business as a whole and 2) enables businesses to predict outcomes for the next month, quarter etc.
