Thank you for this motivation! Thankfully, I'm not having any trust issues with any coworkers, but it's a good reminder, regardless.

How to Repair Trust with a Coworker

Call to Action: Follow these tips to address communication mishaps that left a colleague with bad feelings. These are critical to repair your workplace relationships and continue to Earn Trust every day.

What to do:

1.       Don’t Explain: Sometimes your impact doesn’t match your intent. Instead of explaining (defending) yourself, try to empathize on the impact your actions had.

2.       Listen with Curiosity: Let your colleague know you care about the relationship and acknowledge the situation. Ask them to share their side of the story and what behaviors that you demonstrated lost their trust.

3.       Validate and Take Responsibility: You don’t have to agree with your colleague’s interpretation but you need to recognize their interpretation. Validate their experience and take responsibility for the behavior and it’s (unintended) impact.

4.       Take your Time to Move to Solution: If during the conversation with your colleague things get heated, take a break. You may need a few rounds of listening to repair trust. Pay attention to your own potential unconscious bias and come back when you are prepared to have a constructive conversation.

If you have policies in place, exercise them. Don't hide behind technicality or sweep misconduct under the rug.

I got a call from the Google recruiter about my L7 em interview Google She said I did overwhelmingly good on all interviews except one had mixed feedback on a system design. No surprise because it was not a good interview. The recruiter said i had a choice to go to hiring committee, give referrals they could call about my system design or take another system design interview. I’m not confident about the system design because of the bad experience I had with the previous interviewer. What should I do?

I have 2.5 years of experience as a BI consultant primarily working with SQL and Power BI. I feel a little underpaid while currently making $75k. Any thoughts on what I could ask for at end of year reviews for a salary increase?

Feeling very frustrated right now…company talks a big game about DEI internally, while requiring new hires to move to Texas/Arizona, while the company’s PAC donates to politicians pushing extremist, regressive, anti-woman and anti-LGBT laws

They want to encourage us to “bring our whole self to work” while putting us in situations where we can’t be our whole self.

Anyone else in a similar place, feeling discouraged? Any tips?

I am frustrated as a Gay Woman who has given her all for 30+ years grinding to be the best. I have been in closet, out of closet, in-between and am tired of it. I want to be VALUED as a human being. I have gone from Rock Star to problem when people "found out". I have trained and promoted hundreds of people and been passed over for promotions because of not being a man. I have trained men with less experience, worse results only for them to move forward. If Diversity is important...prove it!

Working on introducing ERGs at a company- how did your company decide the first ERGs to start with? How did they communicate the start of ERGs and roll out the structure?

Definitely took the wrong job. I was offered a seriously competitive salary and great benefits to work at a well funded startup, which is great! Turns out the salary and benefits were meant as lowkey bribes to insure I worked at the company without actually doing any work. Every single suggestion I've made has been shut down and I've been ghosted for several meetings with the CEO. What should I do? Just leave?

I'm in desperate need of tips to get genuine buy in from our predominantly white, male senior leadership to create a more inclusive environment. As is often the case, middle management and below is very diverse and then at Director+ it gets much more homogeneous. So far any real initiatives get shot down in favor of performative actions to post on SM. Is this just how it is, or can we try something different?

Working at a company and they can’t seem to hold on to their female, black and people of color employees. I blinked and 3 of the people who were in my onboarding class were either fired or they left. For context I’ve been in company less than a year and there are people who have been in the company 25yrs. I’m thinking of cutting loose before it gets to my turn.

Hi all,

My boss makes jokes about me being from a different country whenever there is a work meeting or a gathering with coworkers, even though he knows where I am from. This usually occurs when I meet new work-related people or for example if I am in a situation that involves ethnic related subjects.

What is this? This is normal?

Stereotyping?
Racism?

The first time I ignored that, but now it has become a pattern and is bothering me now. I am south-American working in the UK.

I have often wondered if being honest when I fill out EEOC / diversity forms if that limits me from new work / promotions. I used to be able to hide my disability, but it is progressive so now it's not as easy to hide. Thoughts?
