This seems very unlikely, given that biglaw only really hires from a small fraction of the general law school base and outside of the T14 only a small percentage of students at those schools are eligible.
Unless this counts like Morgan and Morgan or Dentons or whatever in which case maybe it’s true.
Agreed. I seriously doubt they mean even AmLaw 200. There are some smaller firms that pay market and have proper practices in AmLaw 200. I’m thinking probably the likes of Susman or Irell or Gunderson fall under 200 who are amazing at what they do but they’re not big enough to be amlaw 100. I doubt those firms would consider someone who’s a typical Morgan and Morgan associate.
I’m pretty sure the actual statistic is closer to 10-15% ngl and this is count V100 firms that don’t pay market. The statistic of lawyers that work at market paying biglaw firms has to be like 5-9%
When I was in law school, I remember meeting Akin’s head of Appalette practice at the time. This was in 2018-19 I think. He mentioned something like they’ve done their research and about 1-2% of lawyers work in biglaw or biglaw-type firms. Assuming three to five times as many people get trained here so touch biglaw at some point or another, a 5-9% figure makes sense. I’d probably say closer to 5%.
