I read an interesting article that said that 95% of employees do not understand their company’s strategy. Would you say you understand that in your organization? How does that fit into the marketplace?

Absolutely not. I think part of that is strategic on the companies part. They don’t want employees understanding how important their work is

What do you mean? You mean like if each employee understood their value then they would start demanding that they get paid more or something? Or do you mean that we wouldn't put in that much effort if we understood the uselessness of the roles? Lol I really can't tell which one is more true. Sometimes I feel like a lot of our jobs are really redundant.

There's a point at which it's not necessary for every employee to understand a company's strategy. I think most people get it in a general sense, that the strategy is to keep going and make money. But long term goals and strategic planning wouldn't be relevant to most people. It reminds me of someone once asking a Marine officer what the men under him thought of something. He said when the Marine Corps wanted them to have opinions they would be issued opinions.

I understand small parts

I understand my role and what the facility I work at does. From a global perspective, I do not have a great grasp of how my facility fits into the bigger picture.

Do more with less. Pretty simple!!

How does a sole engineer at a company go about getting management to actually care how production machines run? I’m the only mechanical engineer at my company dealing with a half dozen cranky production managers who think that I can “work my magic” on a machine. It’s not magic, just ignorance about the machine actually works. How to I get a manager to stop caring about the end product long enough for me to actually teach them about their own machine?
