Okay-
This is probably a bigger undertaking than it might appear, depending upon which products you are looking to drop ship. Not impossible but here are the main problems that I foresee will need to be overcome:
1. You got shipping to the customer, which is going to be possible but depending on the product, you might have to ship via freight. This will definitely come with a steep learning curve.
2. Then you got coordinating logistics with suppliers. This will probably next biggest issue. With drop shipping, the advantage for everyone is the rate of sale. As long as products are selling quickly, supplier are more than willing to forgo the additional revenue from their traditional distribution channels because of speed. The more you buy, the more of a priority you will be for them. They will make sure they have your item(s) in stock and will work with you on the logistics to make everything run smoothly. But if you are not that big of a priority to them, because you are not buying enough, you will not expect this kind of service. So in car parts, they will not be willing to take the chances on ordering those parts from their manufacturer until all the units have been sold through. This isn’t a problem until you really factor in the shipping delays coming from China right now. This could make everything else more delayed down the line, meaning that this might happen- your customer places an order with you. You go to contact your supplier to fulfill the order, they don’t have enough stock to fulfill your order so they tell you they will have to order it. Now, even on an expressed basis, they will order it from their manufacturer. 2-6 days for production, 10-20 days for delivery via boat to USA. Now, I’m not sure if 30 days is a big deal to these customers. I’ve never sold to this market before, but if it is a problem, this is something that will have to be accounted for in this process.
3. Make/model specifics and the reverse logistics process. If the product you are selling is specific to a specific car, this might also present a large problem. Specifically when it comes to the reverse supply chain (returns). Returning something via freight is not impossible but is a ton more difficult. You will have to set up the process for either car specifics, link that to an order matrix, then not offer a return or forgo that and just hope it works for them and offer a return policy. There are advantages and disadvantages to both, so that will need to be worked through.
