I spoke to a financial adviser, and his top advice was for me to max out pension contribution.

I am am man in my early 30s, and I feel like much of my expenses will happen over the next 25 years(pre-retirement). Plan to ask my girlfriend to marry me and start a family.

If you were in the same boat, where would you put much of your money to ensure that you have a decent family life in London

I’d keep it simple. Use 50/30/20 rule - 50 for needs, 30 for wants and 20 for investments. From the 20, invest (100-your age) percentage into a low cost S&P500 index fund like Vanguard and the remaining % in safe government bonds. Change jobs every 2-3 years to get a good jump on your salary and level instead of counting on the yearly raises.
