I teach reading virtually. My last class of the day is my smallest class (13 students). Roughly 3-6 of them actually come to class. 100% of them are severely below grade level in reading and writing. It should be a cotaught class, but I am not working with a sped teacher because we are understaffed. I regularly use read aloud and graphic organizers/sentence starters for every writing assignment. Need suggestions for ways to support them, and help them become rely less on teacher support.

Provide them with PDFs and peruse your online platforms to see if there are audio clips of what you are reading.

You could also have them record themselves reading a short portion of your reading to check for fluency with mini quizzes for comprehension via zoom call after you’ve listen to them all.

Just throwing ideas out there!

Also is there a cover letter template to submit with my apps. Would anyone be willing to connect? Thank you for your time

This is my first recession as a working adult. Is there anything specific one should do to prepare? But ibonds? We typically invest ~$8K a month into a brokerage (already have an emergency fund in actual cash but it’s maybe 2 months cash), but wondering if I should stack a bit more cash?

No worries about job loss or anything in the recession, just trying to see what others investment advice in this time would be.

When beginning a piece of literature, I first help the kids access the relevant culture. I have used web quests, but I have found that the kids researching their choice of topics and creating Slides containing information and pics results in more students participating. Recently they researched heraldry for the Medieval Era and reproduced either a family crest that they found or created their own personal crest. Anyone have other activities they use?

I’m thinking about moving up to a high school English position from 8th grade English. Mainly I’m looking for a change. Any thoughts on the differences I’d be facing?

I’m told by an hs tchr that the grading load is ab the same.
